The Media hotel was part of the infrastructure buildings constructed for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the place where all the accredited journalists stayed. The volumetry of the twenty-two tall building provides the area with a strong visual presence in the form of towers that “interconnect” among themselves and anchored on a horizontal block. Once the observer gets closer to the building, one can perceive an articulation of smaller modules that provide a direct connexion with the surrounding buildings. For the users and the general public that circulate nearby, the different elements such as staircases, entrances, and ramps create multiple view points that “break” the traditional tower aspect. The concept for the Media hotel was designed to balance the needs of the games and the legacy for afterwards, with a transformation into a fully commercial hotel run by the Marriott group.
